Digital Downloads

The End?

It has been a very good learning experience for me. I truly enjoy the learning process, OCLS 2.0, and the feedback.

It is sad but true, but at the moment I don't own an iPod or a portable MP3 player, so my experience with podcasting is limited. I do however do a fair amount of downloading to my computer, and creating an account with Netlibrary was a breeze.

I downloaded the radio version of an audio book since it was faster and it was on my computer. I do understand the very importance of the CD quality for the MP3 player, and I will try it in the future.
After this course, I will definitely use my MP3 player.

Thank you.

Digital Music and Copyright

As with photographs and digital images, digital music needs to be copyrighted.

I believe in the artist's right to protect their music and lyrics. Unfortunately, this is a losing battle for many talented artists whose work is pirated everday.
You can say that Internet is the great equalizer, and it seems that the majority is indeed enjoying the creativity and talent of a handfull of artists. But at no cost?
Media should pay per use rights, but not the way iTunes uses the DRM tool.

From exploring the music sites, my favorites are Liveplasma and www.mystrands.com ( because it gives you the option to listen to the song, before you buy it).

Sharing Information Week 8

I continue with my learning experience and did register for http://www.flickr.com account, search for OCLS and Bingo! there you are, down the list with a nice view of Lake Eola. That's all I want to reveal, just in case there are more people who need to complete the lesson. I liked very much the picture with the duckboat and the dog.

I used Creative Commons license on my photos, using the Attribution NonCommercial,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/blogetteinc/ I like Creative Commons, it is very useful.

About on-line learning: I love it! I like the process and I find it very easy. In my college days, it saved me a lot of traveling to the campus. If it's offered, I will pick the on-line class version versus the on-campus one.
I would have like to start as a team, but I didn't. However, I asked my team for help along the way, and I offered help as well.
I would like to see the OCLS 2.0 learning process continue, and perhaps have something new to share or learn once in a while. Just an idea!

Fun and Web 2 applied on Week 7

I came back from a very nice Memorial Day Weekend. I am ready now for this week's lesson. It was a nice surprize to know that we get some play time to apply what we learned. About beer, who new there is a Web 2.0 Social Beer Network? http://chugd.com/

I prefer wine, so I trully enjoyed (without tasting)http://www.bottletalk.com/. I found me a desert wine, Brown Brothers Orange Muscat & Flora, from Australia. I also like the clean look of their web site. Wine tasting, anybody?

The most fun to play is http://www.blufr.com/.

Web 2 tools and technologies

I am discovering new things this week. Mashups for me are new and by the look of http://www.propsmart.com/ they are really powerful.I visited a couple of web sites that resemble a mashup, but I wasn't aware they are using blending technology or Web 2 application.

I explored the list of libraries in the world offering Web 2 as a learning tool, and in my opinion the list of libraries offering this program is not really that long. I give credit to OCLS to be such an inovator out there, and implenting new techologies as being instrumental to the future of both the library system and its employees.

According to the New Zeeland Library : "this program was originally developed and launched for the staff at the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County".

Hmm, I found me a nice Jeep : Wrangler Sport/Custom 1995 Jeep Wrangler Military custom army YJ CJ willys for $5000. How far will go, I don't know. It has about 98000 miles.

Meet MEEZ

This is way too much fun! The Meez is pretty easy to create. I do need more time to try all the new things I learned. As you can see, I already am listening to my MP3 player, at least in the virtual world. Looking forward to listening in the real world.

Week 4

I am just now starting Week4. I knew already that OCLS has a presence on MySpace, but that I didn't know about YouTube. To me this is a smart move, OCLS need to have exposure on the Web and Web2, have updated information, and be blogged about...

I liked SEOmoz, and I liked their pick of the winners. These people reviewed hundreds of sites, they should know.
My favorites are:
http://realtravel.com
http://www.omnidrive.com/
http://upcoming.yahoo.com/
Till next time...

Week 3

The beauty of the OCLS 2.0 is that the course is bringing staff members together, creating buzz and interest. I tried Grokker and I have mixed feelings about it. I did a search for OCLS, and it gave me 166 results. Good thing OCLS was on the top 6 results. The search for the true crime author, Lowell Cauffiel, returned a mind boggling of a 152 results. His books were on the top results, but not his name. Bloglines proved to be easy to understand and register. I am still working on Yahoo Pipes. To be continued...

Hello!

Thank you OCLS for encouraging us to learn and improve our skills! Blogging is going to be fun.
